Piazza del Popolo

Our plan for martedi was to go it "mollo"... you know, slow, not too much distance walking etc. We got our bus pass right away at our local "tabaccheria" (tabac).

The owner is very nice and was helpful. Outside of her shop is this sign with a hook for the leash:

Bus pass in hand we looked at the map and decided that Piazza del Popolo seemed really close enough to just walk there...so we did!!!! Here are some sight along the way: a commemorative plaque...we see quite a few of these everywhere.

This is a clothing design school for graduate studies...used to be an elementary school:

We begin to realize we are not that close after all!!!

Uh, oh...be CAREFUL!

A narrow little street down off the main thoroughfare...

When we FINALLY got to the turn off street on the corner was a miniature kitchen wares shop about the size of the kiosk in the Teacher's Plaza in Portland across from Fox Tower. It was crammed with interesting kitchen things and this is what I found there!! It is made in Germany.

Since we did not pack a lunch we stopped off at this Alimentari for the BEST mozzarella (fresh) and mortadella panini
and some anise flavored cookies from Abruzzo.

The shop can just about fit 8 people total if everyone stands in a different area. Only Romans seemed to be the customers so we were pretty sure it would be good.

Almost there:

We ate our lunch discreetly and watched the the "popolo!"

From here we went to the Spanish Steps and Keats house and we saw this shop on the Corso:

It was a coccinelle day I guess!!! We DID ride the bus back to Trastevere:

Now I'm settling down to read with a cup of espresso...I'm going to have another cookie too. Don't you think I've walked enough to have another one?

By the way, to all you teachers out there: Happy Teacher's Day (May 6) and thank you for all the work you do! Grazie!
