Sardines, sardines, sardines!

There is a fish restaurant in Marseille called”La boîte à sardine” (the sardine can) which is about the size of a large playhouse in triangle shape.

It sits on the corner of two wide streets and has large windows on both sides. The “back” of the
triangle is the kitchen/bar. We had lunch there in early June with our friends Chris and Chuck and it was quite amazing!

The decor is based on sardine cans of all sorts and is so artistic.

The plates are all different designs of fish in a rainbow of colors and the food is delicious and never the same because the menu is based solely on what came in on the fishing boats in le vieux port that morning.

The menu of the day we had lunch there was based on all ways to prepare sardines among other things...sardine balls, stuffed sardines, grilled sardines etc. also ravioli of merlu (hake) and fried anemones! We had an order of each item plus some palourdes which are a kind of clam.

The waiter (owner??) recites the menu which is written on a four sided blackboard in chalk (in case we need to consult more). Each dish comes out of the tiny kitchen in the back as it is prepared. What a meal!! And so convivial. The place is always crowded so I made reservations. A wonderful way to spend some time in Marseille which is a city I adore.

A bientôt!
I can’t understand why I have all these photos coming up at the bottom of this post. I’m doing this on an iPad Air and they assured me my blog writing would work...do I need to change blog programs to make it work. Very frustrating and I do apologize.
