Stroll around our neighborhood

Last week we took a quick trip to Avignon to get a few necessities as we waited for our bags. We liked the gardens planted at the foot of the ancient exterior walls where we parked.

A huge ferris wheel (La grande roue)is set up there too!!

This lady was all decked out for a stroll through the city...I could not wear heels like this anymore!

Mens shorts are the speciality here...hot pink and purple are big this year as well as lime green, turquoise and orange. Jean-Claude was hesitating!!!!

The Fragonard store window is just filled with colorful things. Check out the pineapple plates!

I think today I'll take you on a short stroll through our new neighborhood. Here is the square de Champville on a Sunday morning.

Straight through the trees on the Place A. Briand is a "glacier" café where they make their own ice cream. (We'll be there this afternoon after we get Maya from school...yum).
The square de Champville is where, in the summer, local farmers come with fresh produce...very handy! This is the window of the local florist with really artistic arrangements.

This poster is a play on words since the European soccer cup games are going on right now (see the French flag colors on the faces?)."La mie" refers to the soft interior part of the baguette but also sounds like "mi-temps" which is half time in a game.

The name of the bakery is "La mie câline"(câline is a hug). There! That is your French lesson for the day. Can't just STOP being a teacher after all!!! Some of the goodies inside. Notice the American style doughnuts in the upper left???

This is the gate to the Chapelle du collège Saint Joseph... a middle school entrance!! Not quite Whitford or Five Oaks!

Next door is the playground of an elementary school. Both of these schools are just behind our apartment.

As we walked around Carpentras on Sunday I spotted this boutique window with an unusual t-shirt with actual ribbons on the brim of the hat.

This Italian grocery/bistro is coming soon to town near the Mairie. The city is busy tiling the whole area to be ready soon. Seems the Tour de France will be passing by so everything is getting spruced up.

I like this window in the Passage Boyer...only thing (here comes the teacher again) it should be "un" not "une"!!! I like those great bags however! This would be fun to draw. You don't actually have to do a real face of a person!!

The place in front of the Cathedrale and the Palais de Justice on a late Sunday afternoon in June is quiet and pretty much empty!

Waiting for the kids at Maya's school the woman in white is a French grandmother!!! Très mode, très French! Check out the espadrilles. The woman in checked, slim pants is also a granny!! Not bad right?!

A bientôt! Enjoy the longest day of the year. It is "la fête de la musique" here.

  1. And I love the French lessons...Madame Paris. Whoa...that junior high is beautiful, and like you say...not exactly Five Oaks.
