Goodbye Nice, hello Aix-en-Provence

The weather changed in Nice on Sunday so we did a short stroll on the Promenade des Anglais...pretty much bundled up...

and then went back to Vieux Nice

to have a late lunch indoors alas which ended with this wonderfully artistic dessert which was a tarte aux citrons (lemon tart). Under the meringue beehive was a tiny lemon tart.

Before we left town on Monday I bought myself some nail polish...called Nice!!

It is a sort of orange shade which looks good with a suntan...not surprising since this town is usually a pretty sunny place! This shop window at the shoe store André caught my eye because the rose/gold shade of the shoes seems to be the absolute shade of the season here...shoes, belts, purses etc.

We drove on to Aix-en-Provence where I went to the university and stopped on the Cours Mirabeau

to take a photo of Roi René (mentioned in an earlier post; he is holding a cluster of muscat grapes he is credited with bringing to Provence)...

and to have a glass of rosé at the café I often spent time in as a student called "Le Grillon." Do I look "student like" there???

It faces a moss covered fountain which is steamy in the winter

and also this doorway with the two cariatides holding up the lintel. Looks like a heavy load!!

I adore Aix and I really like to come back for a stroll. Since this is also Cezanne's city these metal disks are in the streets all over town.

Interesting contrast here at the Place des Albertas. It seems the owner of the central section does not feel there needs to be any upkeep or painting done on his portion of the three sided building so the two end sections are clean and well cared for and the middle section looks like they ran out of paint, soap and water or time!!!It looked this way the last time we came here too!

These guys were creating huge bubbles with two sticks and string to the delight of the kids running around the square near where we parked the car.

We took the wrong exit out of town and spent quite a while circling the countryside to find the entrance to the autoroute. An abandoned inn...

This is the TGV train bridge...

...ahh, at last we see the autoroute...now, how do we get down there???

When we finally got on it was only 28 km to Avignon. I keep forgetting how close everything is here!!

As we strolled around in Aix I took some photos of shop windows that I liked...here is a picture of the Hermes store...love those bright, strong colors.

Some other shops too... don't you think the "hair" on the mannequin is clever?? The skirt was NEON!!

So romantic...reminds me of "Anthropologie."

This shop is called "Gago"...very upscale things. They buzz you in.

Another set of colors I like!

This sweet dog, who reminds me of a combination of Micah and Sheeva, was enjoying the passersby at a café on the Cours.
Au revoir...à bientôt!!
